Not every room is a square. A corridor, a stair landing, a long dining room — put a square centre piece in any of them and it looks stranded, with dead floor at both ends. Decoration has to follow the shape of the room, or it fights it.
This design is made for the long room. Six 800 x 800mm pieces build a 1600 x 2400mm rectangle. A deep Nero Marquina black oval sits in a warm cream field, edged in champagne gold, with scrollwork in each corner answering the flower at the centre. The oval carries the eye down the length of the space instead of stopping it dead.
Every piece is 10mm thick and covers 0.64 sqm, cut square after firing so the oval reads as one clean curve and not six arcs. The gold sits flat and is fired in, never painted on. Under 0.5% water absorption the body counts as porcelain by the ISO standard — dense enough that a wet mop means nothing to it.
